Despite losing the first set to Rafael Nadal, Feliciano Lopez managed to beat his compatriot to make it to the last eight of the ongoing tournament. The Spaniard was hoping to win his clash against Federer.However, the former World No 1 was too tough for Lopez to handle as the Swiss tennis star sealed a comfortable straight set 6-3, 6-4 victory. Federer has not dropped a set so far in the tournament and will be hoping to continue his impressive run against Murray.
The 34-year-old is the defending champion, winning the Cincinnati Masters on six occasions. He will be looking to extend his record as he is two wins from making it his seventh title.
Murray, on the other hand had a scare in the quarter-final after losing the opening set to Richard Gasquet. However, the 28-year-old bounced back to seal the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. He has won the tournament once in 2013 and will be hoping to lift the title for the second time this year.
The winner of the second semi-final clash will face either Novak Djokovic or Alexandr Dolgopolov as the two will feature in the first semi-final scheduled earlier on Saturday.
